At the heart of every Games are thousands of dedicated volunteers who help to provide the best Canada Games experience for athletes, spectators and guests. Volunteers will be needed to plan and support sporting and cultural events before and during the Games.

With a need for thousands of volunteers to effectively run the Games, everyone in Niagara will have a chance to be part of the action.

Check back later this fall and early in 2020 for Leadership Volunteer vacancies, including lead roles within the areas of Transportation, Technology, Fit Out and Volunteer Services. And more to come in Spring 2020!

Many volunteers will be required for various events leading up to the Games. Test sporting competitions, fundraising and alumni events, community and school events and the Torch Relay are the types of activities that will take place from now until Games-time. Check back for vacancies.

Volunteer: Frequently Asked Questions

The Canada Games, held every two years, alternating between summer and winter, are the largest multi-sport event in the country and represent the pinnacle of interprovincial/territorial sport competition. The Niagara 2021 Canada Summer Games encompasses 13 municipalities (12 plus 1 region) and will be held from August 6 - August 21, 2021. The Games will feature 18 sports, 5000 participants, over 4000 volunteers and various cultural events. In 2021, there will be opportunities for para-athletes and Special Olympic athletes to compete as well.

There are three different types of volunteer roles available with the Games:

  1. Leadership Volunteers: These are volunteers who will help us in the planning stages leading up to the Games. You can view a list of current Leadership Volunteer vacancies here.

  2. Pre-Games Volunteers: Various events will be held from now until Games-time and many volunteers will be needed. We encourage you to submit your name and email in order to stay informed about upcoming events through our quarterly newsletter.

  3. Games-time Volunteers: These are volunteers who will assist during the actual Games (August 6th to August 21st, 2021). Our online volunteer registration portal will open in Fall 2020, and all volunteers will be required to register.

Pre-Games: This is from now until the actual Games.

Games-time: Refers to August 6 - August 21, 2021 when the Games will be held, including the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

Yes and yes! We welcome people of all abilities to apply for a volunteer position with the Games and we will work with you to determine how we can support you in your role. Please note, if you are volunteering with your aid/caregiver, they too will have to register on our Games-time volunteer registration portal which will be open from Fall 2020 to Summer 2021.

The Games will be delivered in both official languages, therefore we will be recruiting English speaking and bilingual (English and French) volunteers.

Yes! Please note: volunteers must be at least 16 years of age with parental consent.

Yes! Please note: volunteers are responsible for their own transportation arrangements.

Certain volunteer positions require certifications or licenses. Depending upon the role, volunteers may be required to submit appropriate documentation. Volunteer postings will include qualification requirements.
