Summary:

The Security and Essential Services Chair is a senior volunteer with the Niagara 2021 Canada Games Host Society who actively participates and collaborates with other Chairs on the Games Services Committee (GSC) and is responsible for the planning and delivery of the Security and Essential Services Functional Area (FA). The Security and Essential Services FA plans for the level of security required at the Games and works with public and private providers to ensure this is delivered. In addition the Security and Essential Services FA works with providers of emergency services at the Games to ensure they are aware of Niagara 2021 activities and plan their own operations accordingly. The Security and Essential Services FA works with other FAs to ensure a phenomenal Games is safely experienced by all participants, spectators, VIPs and volunteers.

The person in this role leads the Security and Essential Services Committee, made up of Security and Essential Services Leads for key Niagara 2021’s sport and ceremonies venues, as well as any other members the Chair deems necessary. Niagara 2021 has designated venues where a security presence is required due to increased risk to participants (road events, venues that require security screening or a high level of access control) and/or a need for asset protection. For each of these venues, there is a Security and Essential Services Lead who leads planning and operations, liaising with private security and the appropriate emergency services personnel. Thus, the Security and Essential Services Chair is deeply involved with recruiting, training, and guiding these key leads as they implement plans and work towards success.
