A Transformative Legacy

A key engine of positive change

Sport development and management

Lasting benefits to the sport community in Niagara include trained minor and major officials in 18 different sports, increased ability to deliver future events to a national standard, a community of trained and eager sport volunteers, and a vast array of other social legacies.

Sport infrastructure

Improvements and new builds throughout the region are changing the landscape of available sport facilities not only for Canada Games athletes but for Niagara residents of all ages and abilities. Sport competition and supporting facilities include Canada Games Park, an accessible Rowing Centre at Henley Island, and a Baseball Centre in Niagara Falls.

Canada Games Park

Canada Games Park

Canada Games Park will be located beside the Canada Games Village at Brock University and will host many of the sport competitions at the Games. As a result, many of the participants at the Games will be able to walk from their residence to their competition.
The new state-of-the-art sport facilities will include a Sport and Abilities Centre, consisting of two ice pads, a para-sport gymnasium, health and well-being facilities, high-performance training facilities and a 200m indoor track. Six beach volleyball courts, a 400m track and field facility and an outdoor cycling and environmental sustainability centre will be located outside of the Sport and Abilities Centre.

Henley Rowing Centre

Henley Rowing Centre

The sustainable design of the Henley Rowing Centre is targeted to be an ultra-efficient net-zero (zero energy) facility. As a world-class rowing course, the new facilities will be accessible to all rowers and feature change rooms, medical rooms and training areas.

Social, Community and Culture

Social interaction and participation at the Niagara 2021 Canada Summer Games creates stronger and more unified communities. Sporting events provide opportunities for Niagara residents, youth, Aboriginal peoples and persons with disabilities to take part through employment and volunteerism. Arts and culture festivities held across the region bring Niagara’s tourism sector into focus and help promote the values of Canadian citizenship and multiculturalism.
